Which should you choose?
ChatGPT is a broad assistant for drafting, files and coding. Perplexity is recorded as an AI search and research assistant whose answers link to sources. They overlap on web questions but start from different jobs.
Choose ChatGPT if…
- You want to draft, analyse files, use voice and keep follow-ups in one conversation.
- You want an assistant that also covers coding and projects, not only search.
Choose Perplexity if…
- Your main task is researching a question and you want answers with sources you can inspect.
- You want a free start: the recorded Standard plan has practically unlimited basic searches, 3 Pro Searches a day and limited file uploads.
Check before you pay: Citations are starting points: a real link can still support a different claim than the answer states. Open the sources before you rely on an answer from either tool.
