Source-grounded study and research notebooks
Gemini Notebook, which Google renamed from NotebookLM on 16 July 2026, is a source-based notebook assistant: you add your own documents and ask questions that are answered from those sources.
Yes, under the new name. Google's blog post of 16 July 2026 says "We're renaming NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook" and that it remains a standalone product; the old notebooklm.google address now redirects to notebook.google. Google's plans help page lists a free Standard tier with up to 100 notebooks per user and 50 sources per notebook. Plus allows 200 notebooks and 100 sources, Pro 500 and 300, and Ultra 500 notebooks with 500 or 600 sources. According to Google's FAQ, a source can be up to 500,000 words or 200 MB for local uploads. We track this and other recent changes on our free AI plan changes page.
Google's blog post of 28 August 2026 says that from 2 September consumer accounts moved to flexible, compute-based usage limits that refresh every five hours instead of daily. The limit depends on how complex your prompts are, how long the chat is, how many sources you use and which features you use. Google does not publish exact numbers of chats or Audio Overviews for free users, and its plans help page still mentions daily and monthly quotas, so older articles that quote a fixed number per day may be out of date. Treat any number as approximate and check your own account.
There is no separate consumer price. Gemini Notebook comes with Google AI plans: Plus is $4.99 a month (more Audio Overviews and notebooks), Pro $19.99 a month (5x more Audio Overviews) and Ultra from $99.99 a month, using US prices from Google's plans page. It is also listed in Google Workspace plans such as Business Standard.
People doing bounded research from a known set of documents, such as a project brief or a reading list. Students and staff may already have access, since some qualifying Workspace and Education licences include it.
Notebooks answer only from the sources you supply, so missing or outdated documents are your responsibility. Availability depends on your country and on verifying your age in your Google Account. Google says personal data is not used to train Gemini Notebook unless you submit feedback. This page is based on Google's published pages, not on our own benchmark.
