The useful result
Produce a competitor comparison table where every cell has a quote and a source label, with the key cells verified.
- Produce a competitor comparison table where every cell has a quote and a source label, with the key cells verified.
Ask an assistant “compare my product with these three competitors” and it will fill the table from memory, including features that were retired and prices that changed. The result looks authoritative and cannot be trusted. It also cannot know what changed last week.
The reliable method is to bring the facts yourself. Paste the visible text of each competitor’s page and instruct the model to use only that text, quote the evidence for each cell and write “not stated” when the page is silent. Anthropic’s guidance on restricting a model to supplied documents and grounding answers in quotes is the basis. Always date the research.
The examples below are illustrative exercises, not recorded results from any tool. Sources were checked on 24 October 2026; menus, limits and prices change, so confirm details on the linked pages.
Before you start
- Three to five competitor pages (pricing, features)
- The visible text copied from each, with the URL and today’s date
- The five things you want to compare

Primary documentation and official guidance checked on 24 October 2026. Examples, checks and exercises are original illustrations, not recorded tool tests. Cover artwork is a conceptual illustration.
Collect the pages and label them
Copy the visible text of each competitor’s pricing and feature pages. Label each block with the competitor name, the URL and today’s date. Decide the five criteria, such as price, free plan, main features, limits and support, before you start.
Check your result
Each page text is labelled with name, URL and date, and you have a fixed list of criteria.
Ask for a table with a quote in every cell
Instruct the assistant to use only the pasted text. For each competitor and criterion it must give a short quote and the source label, or write “Not stated” if the text is silent. No outside knowledge and no guesses about what is missing.
Compare the competitors using ONLY the pasted pages below. Build a table with one row per criterion: [criteria] and one column per competitor. In each cell give a short exact quote and the source label, e.g. [A]. If the pages do not say, write “Not stated”. Do not use outside knowledge, and do not guess.

Page B (name, URL, date):
[paste]Example / expected result
Illustrative example; not a recorded model result.
“‘Free plan: up to 3 projects’ [A]”. Another: “Not stated”.
Check your result
Every cell contains a quote and a label, or “Not stated”.
Verify the cells that matter on the live pages
Pick the three cells that would change your decision, usually prices and limits, and check them on the live pages. Look at the date: pages change. Note the date on the table and treat “Not stated” as a question to ask, not a negative.
Check your result
The three key cells match the live pages, and the table is dated.
When it goes wrong
Marketing pages describe, they do not prove. Pricing may differ by region or require a login. Do not copy competitor text into your own site. Respect each site’s terms when collecting pages.
Make it your own
Compare three real tools you are considering. Fill the table from pasted pages, verify three cells and write down which “Not stated” you will ask about.
