Outcome and preparation
A screenshot guide can save repeated explanations, but a useful capture may also include customer names, messages or browser chrome. Prepare a safe demonstration before recording. Reviewing only the written steps misses information that remains visible inside images.
Step 1: Make a clean demonstration workspace
Use fictional records and close unrelated panels before capture. For a sample project-label guide, create "Demo Project" and a harmless label. List the screens you expect to record. If a private page is necessary, write that step manually instead of capturing it. This preparation works even when your account has no redaction feature.
Step 2: Capture the shortest successful path
Record only actions that the intended reader can perform. Scribe can turn browser actions into screenshot steps; desktop capture and exports are plan-dependent. Remove detours from the guide rather than treating the first recording as final. Check that every step explains the purpose of the action in plain language.
Step 3: Review images at full size
Inspect screenshot edges, open tabs, tooltips, notifications and sidebars. Scribe’s documented screenshot redaction is available on Pro and Enterprise.. Verify availability before relying on it. When a safe correction is unavailable, replace the capture with a clean sample or a written instruction.
Worked example: a label-creation guide
A safe guide shows a fictional project and explains "Open labels, enter Demo, save, confirm the label appears." An unsafe guide includes a sidebar of real customer accounts. Review written text as well as images: automatically generated descriptions can repeat the sensitive name even after an image is repaired.
Test as the intended reader
Ask a colleague with the intended role to follow the guide. Check that no step depends on your administrator permissions and that the final state is observable. Keep the editable original and a review date. Share only after both the process and each screenshot pass review; automatic capture alone does not establish either.
